With spring slowly arriving for real, this month was full of activities: After many weeks or even months of intending to do so, we finally managed to find time, for all of us together, to go take a walk around downtown Aachen. Daniel's first reaction to this was to be so stunned by all the new impressions that he immediately fell asleep. But soon, he was awake again and gazing around with big eyes, though apparently not quite sure whether all of this is real or he's still dreaming...
But soon we also ventured out for farther trips again as well. For one thing, we went to visit Manuela and Mario on two weekends to "help" them with some construction (or rather destruction) work. Unfortunately, we did not manage to be quite as helpful as we had hoped, but rather invaded with four people at once (out of which usually only one was working, whereas the other two were busy with the fourth - very little - one), destroyed a sledge hammer, and caused a big ruckus when Jefferson got a stone into his eye and we had to go to the eye clinic in Cologne... Luckily, this just meant that we had to wait around there for a couple of hours, with Daniel vigorously exploring the waiting area. But in the end, Jefferson just got some anti-inflammation medicine and an eye patch, which he had to wear until the next morning, and then he was fine again. The only lasting damage was that he missed bringing down the building, to which he had been looking forward all along.
Aside from that, we also drove to Kirchberg once more for a short visit with Daniel's German grandparents, where Daniel got to eat grown-up food and take tours of the big house with "Opa". Unfortunately, he got rather impatient during the long drive, so we had to take a break along the way. But afterwards, he was still (or even more than before?) very unhappy to go back into his car seat. Speaking of which, since he had already outgrown his first one, we now got him a big new seat that should hopefully last until he is twelve years old - now he's facing front and gets to look out of the window, something which he seems to be enjoying quite a bit. Of course only if he doesn't just fall asleep stunned from all the new impressions...
After these rather exciting trips, we stayed a bit closer to home: A fun fair in Aachen, or even just eating grass and flowers in the lawn in front of our apartment. Or, for a change, going for a really horrible ;-) bike trip: We first spent hours to assemble the kids' seat, to then get lost on intertwined forest paths while our nasty huge bikes kept trying to kick Jefferson's mother off. In the meantime, Daniel was once more so stunned by all these new impressions that he just fell asleep...
As if this was not enough action yet, this month we also went back to baby swimming. After Daniel had been enjoying his baths in the bathtub so much, we thought he might like it. Well, turns out that we actually had even underestimated this: The first time in the new course, he went completely crazy - splashing and kicking around so wildly that we had to keep him at a safe splashing-distance from the other kids and parents. And once the instructor, when intending to show some new activity to him, gave up on it with the remark "never mind, I see this guy is already busy..." ;-)
But of course, even with so many trips and activities, there was always time to enjoy the little adventures at home - trying to drink from a cup, kicking and trying to crawl, cuddling and playing around on the sofa... Hiding in a diaper box, looking out of the window with vovó (a favorite pastime of his)... And can anything be more fascinating than a whole box full of Q-tips? (Except, of course, for a good nap to recover from a very exciting month...)
