Daniel just turned 1 week yesterday! So it's high time for pictures, pictures, pictures. And of course a short summary...
After the birth, we still stayed in the delivery suite until around 11pm together, taking the first pictures etc. We were hoping to get a "family room" in the hospital, where Jefferson could stay with me even at night, but unfortunately all suitable rooms were already occupied. So Jefferson went home, to call our families, attend the blog etc., and I went to a normal hospital room. Daniel apparently had a headache from the ventouse, so he kept me and my room neighbor awake all night. Only in the morning we finally got a little bit of sleep. Then Jefferson came back, and shortly after my parents stopped in for a short visit. The rest of the day was busy getting used to feeding Daniel, lots of doctor's and nurses' visits, and finally moving to a family room after all.
The next few days in the hospital were similarly busy, learning to feed and change Daniel, doctors and nurses dropping in all the time, a professional photo shooting by the hospital photographer, paperwork, etc. We were supposed to go home on Tuesday, but on Monday night we found out that Daniel was not getting enough food from breastfeeding, so we stayed a day longer trying to "fix" this. Unfortunately, the extra day probably did more harm than good, with each nurse telling us different information, and scolding me for actually daring to sleep 3 hours in a row one night and thus disrupting the feeding schedule etc. So we were very relieved when we finally came home on Wednesday night.
At home, things started getting much more relaxed - of course we are still rather stressed and sleepless and trying to figure out Daniel's feeding problems. But we are back in familiar surroundings, don't have to constantly wake Daniel for weighing, taking his blood, taking him to the children's doctor etc., don't constantly have strangers dropping in wanting to examine me, "hand me over" to the evening shift nurse, explaining physiotherapy for young mothers etc. And finally we are even managing to get at least some sleep occasionally, taking turns in feeding Daniel (and without a nurse getting angry at me when I finally dared to sleep more than 2 hours that day!). We had another short visit from my parents yesterday, and also ventured to the supermarket with Daniel for the first time.
The only thing still worrying us is that we still haven't managed to solve his feeding problems - since I don't seem to get enough milk for him, we have to give him formula as well. And that again seems very confusing to him, sometimes he doesn't like one thing after trying the other, he spends a very long time eating for 5 minutes, sleeping for 10 minutes, eating for another 5 minutes etc. But well, hopefully soon this will settle, too?
Anyway, enough words, here are finally the long-awaited pictures. First the professional pictures by the hospital photographer:
