Week 2

First bath, first walks outside (in both sling and buggy), first colics... In this second week we did have some new experiences. :)

Talking about 'firsts', Kathrin visited her general practitioner for some blood tests and managed to recover the very first ultrasound picture of Daniel!

Ok, not much to see, but by that time it was thought it should be a cyst in a swollen uterus - and as we told in our first post here, that got us very worried about the possible infertility problems it might mean for us... :-)

And, although the breast pump is being needed more rarely and a sort of routine is establishing itself already, this week was still marked by Daniel's feeding issues. Breast milk supply is increasing, but it's still not enough so we supplement with formula milk. We are avoiding giving it in a bottle by now (first month or so) just not to risk Daniel refusing the breast. So what have we been using instead? Two pieces of equipment: the finger-feeder and the supplemental nursing system (SNS).

The finger-feeder is nothing but a silicone tip to be put in a syringe, which you use to inject milk in the baby's mouth as he sucks your finger. The SNS is a bottle from which the milk is taken to the baby's mouth through a thin silicon pipe, which the baby sucks together with the mother's nipple. Daniel is already eating too much for finger-feeding to be practical so we use only the SNS by now - sometimes actually attached to a finger.

But, well, when he is not eating, Daniel also sneezes, hiccups, moves happily his arms and legs, sneezes, hiccups... :)

And here are some of the favorites shots of the week:
