This week was a week of good-byes - to Aalen and our home and friends there. It started with me playing a last concert with my band on Sunday, on the last day of the annual "Reichstädter Tage" festival. The same evening, some of my former colleagues came by once more for an evening of board games. And last but not least, we went to admire the closing fireworks of the "Reichstädter Tage".

After that, Daniel got to enjoy his favorite spots in the old apartment for the last time: e.g., the changing table and his "kicking blanket" under the piano - playing and "talking" with Papai (Portuguese for "Daddy"). Finally, on Wednesday, we had two more chances to meet friends - from Jefferson's German class and from my work - before we left Aalen for good.
The rest of the week was a hard test for poor little Daniel: packing the most important things, standing another long drive to Oma's and Opa's (his German grandparents') place, and then, worst of all, "losing" both his parents and his vovó (Brazilian grandmother) for two entire days, while we went to Aachen without him to prepare the new apartment for moving in, since it still needed quite a bit of work. Even with Oma and Opa and the rest of the family being very happy to see him again and taking great care of him, he apparently was very impatient and crying a lot, obviously missing something badly. Luckily, with a lot of help from friends putting up wallpapers and painting the walls, and trying to speed up renovations e.g. by trying to "erase" the worst marks, we did not have to stay away from Daniel for even longer. We could enjoy the "long-awaited" ;) reunion of our little family on Saturday night. Even not being able to talk just yet, he did find a way of telling us in universally understandable symbols, and with a lot of saliva, how much he had missed us... ;-)
